Looking to get your friends around for a games night but not sure how much experience they have with gaming? Or maybe you wish to get into gaming for yourself? Regardless, there are plenty of games suited to adults of all abilities that don’t require you to understand lengthy rules or details.
Here, we take a look at four game ideas for beginners to ensure everyone has fun.
Charades
Designed for two or more players, the aim of charades is simple: act out a word or phrase and have the others guess what it is. This could be a film, TV show, celebrity, or even just an object. The first person to get it correct wins a point for themselves or their team, the winner being whoever gains the most points over the course of the game.
You can create your own charade cards if you wish and tailor them to your audience or you can find printable versions online. Topics generally include pop culture figures, sports, and activities.
Bingo
The rules of bingo are simple, you’re given a card with numbers ranging from 0-90 and numbers will then be read at random. Your job is to mark these off in the hopes of getting a line or full house (all of the numbers). Get either of these and you need to shout ‘bingo’.
While you can make your own bingo cards at home and use a random number generator, you can also play online. All you need to do is download a bingo app or create an account online and choose whichever theme takes your fancy.
Blackjack
Blackjack is a popular game due to its easy-to-pick-up rules and short game time. The aim is to beat the dealer by having a hand as close to 21 as possible without exceeding this. Every card in the deck has a different value, meaning you must assess whether to pick up more cards or stick with the ones you have.
Numbers 2-10 are worth their face value, Jack, Queen, and King are all worth 10, and an Ace can either be 1 or 11 (whichever works best for you).
Roulette
This game may look intimidating at first, however, playing doesn’t require any previous experience and is easy to learn. Essentially, you’re faced with a large wheel, either virtually or in person, that is spun alongside a ball. Generally, the wheel will be numbered 0-36 – your role is to try and guess where it will land.
This doesn’t necessarily need to be the exact number though. You may make a bet as to what colour, column, or row it will land on, or whether the number will be odd or even.
