The USB-IF has announced new logos for the power rating on USB Type-C cables and chargers. These logos will make it easier to identify which devices are compatible with a particular cable or charger.

The new usb-c charger is a new power rating logo that the USB-IF has announced. It will be easier for consumers to identify which cables and chargers are capable of providing 240 watts of power.

The USB-Whether has agreed to add a new logo program to its faster, 240-watt charging standard for USB Type-C, which should make it simpler for customers to tell if a cable is officially approved to handle the connector’s higher peak power output. They seem to be quite simple: customers who wish to take advantage of USB4 40 Gbps speeds and/or USB Type-C 60-watt/240-watt charging need just look for the appropriate emblem on the box. Chargers that have been approved for the new power supply standard will also have a distinct logo.

According to the USB-IF news release:

[…] The Certified USB4 Logos have been revised to unify branding throughout the Certified USB Logo Program, allowing customers to quickly recognize the performance and power capabilities of certified USB cables, hosts, devices, and chargers.

Certified USB solutions guarantee marketplace interoperability and backwards compatibility, and USB-IF encourages customers to buy certified goods from reputable retailers that show USB-IF Certified Logos on packaging, product summaries, or the device, charger, and cable itself.

“With the new higher power capabilities allowed by the USB PD 3.1 Specification, which unlocks up to 240W via a USB Type-C cable and connector,” stated Jeff Ravencraft, President and COO of USB-IF.

“With our new emblems, customers can quickly recognize Certified USB-C Cables’ USB4 performance and USB Power Delivery features, which enable an ever-growing ecosystem of consumer devices ranging from laptops and smartphones to displays and chargers.”
