The idea behind Giants Uprising is a piece of Nordic folklore, in which giants rise from the earth after being slumbering for centuries to fight against society. The game itself has been in development for over five years and was set to be released on Steam at the end of October 2018 but instead will release on December 4th following significant delays by developer White Elk Studios.

The “giants uprising console” is a game that has been released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It was initially released on January 30th for $19.99 but it is now available for free. The game is buggy at the start but it does get better as you progress through the story.

Giants Rising is a game developed and released by VARSAV Game Studios about giants being subjugated by mankind and exploited as slaves for sport and slaughter. The game allows you to control a giant, escape humanity’s grasp, discover what happened to your people, and ultimately determine their destiny. Giants Uprising is now in Early Access on Steam, and the developer hopes to continue development with the support of the community. This review reflects the current state of the game, since it is still in production. This is our evaluation of the Giants Uprising Early Access build, in which we crush everything in our way and wipe out whole human armies.

Giants Uprising is an adventure game in which you take on the role of a giant who must rise up against human brutality. The plot follows Rogbar and Kielbasa, who are both caught and enslaved by humans for the sake of entertainment. Both of them compete in a ring where giants battle each other until one of them dies, while people watch. Your quest starts in one of these battles, but you manage to flee for your life and make it to the shelter of the forest, where you plot your next move against the humans and reclaim the giants’ independence. Although there are some RPG elements in the game, it is mostly a third-person medieval fantasy action-adventure.

The plot is told via cutscenes, however they aren’t completely animated and are presented in the manner of a visual novel rather than a video. The dialogue is completely voiced for virtually all of the game’s important characters, which is a good thing since it completes the visual novel feel of the cutscenes. You play as Rogbar the giant, but you’re joined on your quest by Kielbasa the slave, who ran away with you and now serves as your guide in the game, telling you what to do and where to go.

Giants Uprising is a third-person game, but the camera is not immediately behind your giant, but rather a bit to the right and up higher, giving you the impression that the camera is looking down from the giant’s right shoulder. Depending on your playstyle, you may land a variety of attacks. You have a standard attack that may be linked together to create a basic attack combination to do damage to adversaries that have a chance against you. Then you have a sluggish heavy strike that lands a huge slam attack in front of you that also has an AoE. You can utilize your legs for a stomp strike in addition to your fists, which is useful when you’re encircled by human troops.

Because you are a giant, you can naturally pick up and throw different things in the game, which is a key element because some of the adversaries can only be defeated with thrown items in the game. To escape harm, you may also block oncoming blows and sprint to the flanks. If you keep killing opponents, your Rage meter will fill up and you’ll be able to enter Rage Mode, where you’ll be able to wreak havoc on the world around you. Boomerangs, spears, javelins, and other weapons are among the weapons available to you throughout the game. Each weapon in the game has a durability meter that depletes when it hits zero.

You may also employ other ambient components, such as exploding barrels, to wipe out your adversaries throughout the game. These aren’t many, but you’ll find them carefully positioned in different locations where they might be really useful. Some of the weapons may also be utilized as melee weapons, which can be swung about to damage structures, armies, and even towers. If there are towers that are far higher than you can reach, you may always aim and hurl your weapon at them to take them out quickly.

Your giant, despite all of his power, is not invincible. Humans possess massive amounts of force that, if used improperly, may quickly kill you. I was casually swooshing about and not worrying about my health for the most of my gaming, but it turns out that your gigantic may be delicate and brittle at times. Towers can easily mowing you down, and since the giant flinches, having three or more towers firing at you keeps you locked in the same spot, ensuring your doom. The people may seem little in the game, but their sheer numbers may swiftly deplete your health.

You may consume meat or anything made out of meat to help your health recover. For a rapid boost of health, I enjoyed picking up cows and devouring them whole. If you’re out of meat and can’t locate any wildlife, you may damage buildings and anything else that gets in your way to regain health. There is no auto-recovery of health in the game, so if you run out of meat, you must be careful not to take too many hits or you will perish quickly.

You also have a talent tree where you may activate various nodes to get new skills or benefits for your giant. There are no limitations, and you may simply activate and deactivate particular nodes in order to activate another node at any moment. You just need skill points, and you may activate as many nodes on the skill tree as you like to receive various modifiers. The skill tree, on the other hand, is only accessible through the game’s main menu, and it would have been more handy if you could access it while playing a level. These mods might vary from providing a new talent to making your existing strikes more effective. You may make your own build based on your preferences.

When it comes to Giants Uprising’s graphic design, even in Early Access, the game looks fantastic. The level design is excellent, and the destructible surroundings look fantastic as you bash your way through them. The feeling of deconstruction is really pleasant, but there are a few drawbacks, such as being a giant and not being able to smash objects that are much smaller than you. This leads to discrepancies in gameplay and, at times, an unusual appearance. Aside from these few periods, the game looks fantastic, and the ability to dash through towns, communities, and whole armies is quite exciting. The charge ability is by far the greatest in the game, since it gives you the feeling of being unstoppable.

Giants Uprising is a fun game with some amazing devastation potential, but at this moment, my biggest worries are with the game’s performance rather than the inclusion of new content. The game is currently under-optimized, and even with a 3080, the framerate dip below 30 FPS on times, and the gameplay is rough in general. The developer has released a roadmap for the game, however it only contains fresh material such as new opponent kinds, tower types, and stages. I’d rather see the future updates concentrate on the game’s optimization and better gameplay. Although the gameplay isn’t horrible, the controls might be tweaked and made more responsive. Although I recognize that giants are sluggish and huge, the controls must be strengthened.

The controller support is also in need of improvement. I couldn’t pause the game with my Xbox Series X controller when playing on PC, so I had to use the Esc key on the keyboard. When you switch to the controller, the controllers do not alter to reflect the controller; instead, a little strip appears at the bottom of the screen that details the controller’s mappings. It’s not a very attractive presentation, especially for a 2021 release. The graphics are lovely, and I really like how the game looks, but it might need some optimization so that it can better use the hardware resources. I observed that the audio was a touch out of place in several situations due to the stuttering.

I’ve been interested in Giants Uprising since I first heard about it in the press, and it’s been on my radar ever since. However, the game still needs a lot of improvement in its present condition. Despite its bugs and poor optimization, the game has a lot of potential, and with new content on the way, it will undoubtedly expand to new heights. However, before expansion, the game must be technically sound, as new content will be useless if players with even $4000 rigs are unable to play it properly. If you improve the game, balance it, and tighten the controls, you’ll have a solid giants title where you can inflict misery on the helpless humans in more ways than you can imagine.

The Bottom Line:

Despite the fact that faults and malfunctions are normal in Early Access games, Giants Uprising is still a hurried release. In its present form, the game’s enjoyment aspect is overshadowed by its poor optimization, several balance flaws, and other glitches. Several times throughout my playing of Giants Uprising, I became annoyed due to numerous factors, such as gameplay or problems. At this moment, I would advise you to wait and allow the creators some time to make a couple more updates, since the game is in desperate need of optimization. Aside from the bugs, the optimization is terrible. Overall, I like the notion and concept of the game, and if the makers are serious about it, it has the potential to be a really enjoyable game. However, we’ll have to wait and see whether it occurs. You can still buy it on Steam if you want to give it a chance.

5.5/10 for the overall performance.

The “giants uprising demo” is a buggy start for a promising title. The game suffers from performance issues, bugs, and glitches. It was released on the Xbox One in April of 2017.
